Department of Public Works The city of Portage, Ml is heading into its sixth season using AquaPhalt, water-activated permanent pothole repair. We repair potholes on city streets, in subdivisions and parks with the product. We also utilize a Dura Patch machine that is used for the same applications. The Dura Patch machine is very useful and effective, it can only be used in moderate, dry weather conditions. This scenario has left us at a disadvantage in the past.

While it's more expensive than cold patch, there are many benefits that outweigh its additional up-front cost. We like to refer to AquaPhalt as "hot mix in a bucket" because it sticks like hot mix. It's proven to be a very effective tool in our arsenal. Unlike HMA, it can be used in any weather and can be driven on immediately without it picking up on tires because it contains no petroleum. AquaPhalt is a permanent pavement fix for both asphalt and concrete.

Another benefit is that AquaPhalt is one and done. Crews don't return to the same pothole more than once. We've reduced the need for street sweeping due to minimized cold patch on the street as well as unclogging of sewer lines, etc. The biggest benefit is that it comes with a three-year manufacturer's warranty.
