Since 2022, Lucas County, which includes the metropolitan area of Toledo, OH, has utilized AquaPhalt, a water-activated permanent cold patch. Our agency, Lucas County Engineers Road Maintenance, is responsible for maintaining over 300 lane miles and nearly 200 bridge decks. We have employed AquaPhalt for various applications including: around manhole covers, catch basins, and directly on bridges. Additionally, we use a DuraPatch machine to overlay AquaPhalt, achieving excellent results for permanent repairs.
Although AquaPhalt is more expensive than regular cold patch, its numerous benefits justify the additional upfront cost. We often refer to AquaPhalt as "hot mix in a bucket" due to its adhesive qualities similar to hot mix asphalt. AquaPhalt can be used in any weather and allows immediate traffic to drive on it without adhering to tires, as it is free of petroleum. This product serves as a permanent pavement solution for both asphalt and concrete surfaces.
Moreover, AquaPhalt's efficiency eliminates repeated pothole repairs. The reduction returning to the same repair because of blown out cold patch, street sweeping requirements and unclogging of sewer lines is notable. Importantly, AquaPhalt comes with a three-year manufacturer's warranty.
