Ohio Department of Transportation District 2 currently uses Pine Power, eco-friendly asphalt and tar remover from SPC Specialty Products, for cleaning the district's paving tools and equipment.
We performed a side-by-side demonstration in December of 2019 to compare Pine Power with our previous product, Rhoma-Sol, and haven't looked back. The entire District now uses it. The demo in 2019 showed that Pine Power was a superior product. It not only cleaned measurably better using less material, but it also smelled better. Pine Power has a very clean and refreshing pine scent, instead of the citrus based solvent we previously used.
Pine Power is effective for cleaning paving equipment, hot boxes and tools. Crew members apply it to the beds and sides of trucks with a three-gallon pump up sprayer and let it sit overnight. By morning, the accumulated asphalt is completely dissolved. We also clean the trucks with a pressure washer that uses steam and hot water. It literally melts the asphalt build-up away.
Pine Power is 20% less expensive than Rhoma-Sol and we also receive great support from SPC Specialty Products. We always receive it in a timely manner, and they stand by the product.
Based on the feedback from District Equipment operators and my own experience with Pine Power, I fully recommend using it. I appreciate this opportunity to provide my unbiased feedback.
